Just wanted to report that for the latest Xquartz under Leopard I can use two-finger scrolling on the trackpad in the same way as under Tiger's X11. It works if the software is set up to interpret button4 and button5 as up and down scrollwheel action. Often that's already configured that way, but in fink's Xemacs, e.g., one can put the line (mwheel-install) into .xemacs/init.el to make it work.
