That's the intent of the buildlock under normal circumstances--to keep  
you from building a package in multiple processes at the same time.   
This means you can't use dpkg to manage gnumeric right now.  You don't  
happen to have two different sessions open that might be trying to  
build gnumeric?

Did you check http://wiki.finkproject.org/index.php/Fink:buildlocks as  
the message said?

If you don't actually have an active build of gnumeric going, then try  
removing the build lock package via

fink remove fink-buildlock-gnumeric-1.8.1-3
