Starting from scratch is rarely as simple as it seems. The "deborphan" and "debfoster" tools are handy for dealing with pruning out unwanted packages. Never assume that we're going to go back to a prior message to find out what's on your system (and people do have multiple systems and update their OSes so such data are really only useful at the time of a current message anyway). If you're on 10.4 and installed a Fink X11 that's OK too, because I don't think there is ever going to be an update to our xfree86 or xorg packages; and if there were it won't automatically overwrite what you have installed.
