You mean the library from the netcdf-gfortran package? It's dynamic everywhere for the current version of the package; this isn't just a Snow Leopard thing. From my 10.5 system: $ dpkg -L netcdf-gfortran-shlibs /. /sw /sw/lib /sw/lib/netcdf-gfortran /sw/lib/netcdf-gfortran/lib /sw/lib/netcdf-gfortran/lib/libnetcdff.4.dylib /sw/share /sw/share/doc /sw/share/doc/netcdf-gfortran-shlibs /sw/share/doc/netcdf-gfortran-shlibs/COPYRIGHT /sw/share/doc/netcdf-gfortran-shlibs/README /sw/share/doc/netcdf-gfortran-shlibs/RELEASE_NOTES I got rid of the static library because normally they are of far less utility on OS X than on Linux; this is our common practice.
