Fink packages aren't necessarily set up to talk to packages provided by
arbitrary third parties. You might check with the meterbridge
maintainer to see if he knows anything special about running it. The
usage notes

$ meterbridge
Meterbridge version 0.9.2 - http://plugin.org.uk/meterbridge/

Usage meterbridge: [-r ref-level] [-c columns] [-n jack-name] [-t type]
<port>+

suggest that maybe one can set it to point to an arbitrary jack server,
but I'm not sure of that.

Other apps will have their own methods to talk to the jack server, so
consult their documentation.
