Unless Apple's grep changed options between 10.5 and 10.6, no.  It
worked fine here.

You are indeed using the 10.5 distribution on 10.6, and that's not going
to work.  And because your fink package manager version from 2007,
you're not going to be able to update that in place--it's too old to
understand 10.6.  (Unfortunately, the Leopard binary installer had a bit
of breakage, so updates could get stuck)

What you can do is capture your list of currently installed packages,
remove your Fink tree, and install Fink for 10.6 from scratch.
