Could it be that stunnel misbehaves? I am not even sure that stunnel is used in your case, but I am having troubles with the latest unstable (4.34) so it might be worth trying downgrading stunnel. Both 4.33 (older unstable) and 4.10 (stable) work for me (but 4.34 does not; it just drops the connection as soon as something is sent).
