Two important (and related!) corrections. First and most importantly, 
libspectre apparently is for ps support, not pdf. That was one of many 
confusions that made it hard to get that lib even into a state good 
enough to even consider packaging. Given that, it's unclear that 
"okular doesn't display pdf correctly" is related to absence, presence, 
or breakage in libspectre (not sure if it uses the postscript handlers 
when reading/rendering other complex filetypes). 
 
Second, with my local okular that links my personal libspectre, both 
okular4-mac and okular4-x11 *do* display .ps files (open .pdf in 
Preview.app, Print...Save as PostScript...). I don't know if okular has 
always done this (with a workaround or other implementation if no 
libspectre). So if my libspectre does enable .ps support, maybe it's 
worth committing (also as a real-world test that the libspectre package 
is good).
