Not to worry:  I overreacted a bit.

Anyway, it sounds like the issues with pdftk-1.44 may not be easily
fixed for 10.4/intel and 10.5/intel, requiring a gcc which doesn't exist
yet:

I propose that the maintainer restore pdftk-1.41 for 10.5/intel and
10.4/intel.

I'm going to test out the powerpc fix in the message linked above on
10.4/ and 10.5/powerpc.
