Dear Benjamin,

Thanks for this helpful note!
I think I may have run into a problem relating to the updates
that were recently posted.

I can move .xinitrc.d away from $HOME and run plain old X11.
But as soon as I have .xinitrc.d in place and run X11 trying
to start up KDE4, X11 crashes quickly (within 1 second).

The message in /var/log/system.log that seems most relevant is:

May 22 17:54:16 mymac org.x.startx[68456]: dyld:
Library not loaded: /sw/lib/qt4-x11/lib/libphonon.4.dylib
May 22 17:54:16 mymac org.x.startx[68456]: Referenced from:
/sw/opt/kde4/x11/lib/libplasma.3.dylib
May 22 17:54:16 mymac org.x.startx[68456]: Reason: Incompatible
library version: libplasma.3.dylib
requires version 4.3.0 or later, but libphonon.4.dylib
provides version 4.0.0

Since libphonon.4.dylib comes from phonon-x11-shlibs,
and since libplasma.3.dylib comes from kdelibs4-x11-shlibs
(which hasn't changed in a long time),
I suppose that something in phonon-x11-shlibs may
just be labelled or tagged incorrectly.

I'm happy to post other info, and thanks for all the
updates you provide
our community.

Andrew
