        Unless you are using Fink to do it, not really [even then that 
conversation should take place in fink-devel rather than fink-users].  You 
might try the automake forum at:

        However, i wouldn't mind if you privately keep me up to date on your 
progress.  I'm also involved in another project that is currently having a 
terrible time dealing with automake/configure not able to find frameworks when 
they are installed... The single most popular answer i get when i ask about 
this is "You should be using cmake"!

        I'm not aware of any fink packages that build a framework.  There are 
some open source projects that distribute an XCode profile with their sources, 
and it should be possible to check one of those for the required arguments.
