I went ahead and ran those commands.
"fink install meld" took a while to complete. After it completed its magic, it
reported successfully installing many packages including
New package:
dists/stable/main/binary-darwin-i386/gnome/meld_1.3.3-1_darwin-i386.deb
Now, how do I launch meld?

Do 'fink selfupdate' followed by 'fink install meld'.
If you want version 1.5 instead of 1.3, you'll also have to enable unstable via
'fink configure', after that 'fink selfupdate', then 'fink install meld'
