I've been round this loop a few times now, trying to do a fresh install of
octave-atlas:

fink install bundle-octave324-atlas
Information about 10522 packages read in 1 seconds.

fink needs help picking an alternative to satisfy a virtual dependency. The
candidates:

(1) fltk-backend-aqua-oct324: Graphics backend for octave-3.2.4
(2) fltk-backend-x11-oct324: Graphics backend for octave-3.2.4

While trying to install:
  arpack-96patched-6

The following inconsistencies found:
  Unsatisfied dependency in arpack: arpack-shlibs (= 96patched-6)

Trying to resolve dependencies...
Could not resolve inconsistent dependencies!

Fink isn't sure how to install the above packages safely. You may be able to
fix things by running:

  fink scanpackages
  sudo apt-get update
  sudo apt-get install arpack=96patched-6

Failed: Fink::SysState: Could not resolve inconsistent dependencies

Do what it suggests, and you just go round the loop again. How do I get past
it?

This is on 10.6.8 with everything else up to date:
i686-apple-darwin10-gcc-4.2.1 (GCC) 4.2.1 (Apple Inc. build 5666) (dot 3)
