That looked like a great answer so I tried it. It does not change the output of "which smbd" however, which remains /usr/sbin/smbd (even after rebooting). For what it's worth, I'm disabling file sharing on that machine for now to comply with my institution's requirements. I have plenty of workarounds for file sharing.
