This issue has a proposed fix upstream...

which hasn't been checked into either gcc trunk or gcc-4_8-branch. Once they 
commit a final
patch into gcc trunk, I can backport that for gcc48 and stop building libffi. 
While this will
change the shared libraries for gcc48, this really shouldn't matter as gcc48's 
libffi headers
aren't at the top level and nothing in gcc48 uses libffi directly (as the java 
support uses libffi
convenience libraries instead).
