We discourage cross-posting because it can make later searches of the list archives much more difficult when a thread is on multiple lists. (We can't control discussion off-list with the maintainer or another party, of course). The failure message for a build is explicitly different when the maintainer is a Fink list (in fink >= 0.31.0). In such a case we _only_ suggest contacting fink-beginners or fink-users and don't mention the maintainer list, mainly because the problem is most often not a packaging error and so there's nothing to be changed. It's easy enough to switch the discussion to a maintainer list later on if there's reason to do that.
