hi. i'm on "Package manager version: 0.34.7". i installed

inkscape 0.48.4-3 SVG application

but it was unable to open any files. this seemed to be the problem:

so, i installed

gnome-vfs2-unified 1:2.24.2-2 The GNOME virtual file-system
libraries

and now i'm able to open files with inkscape.
i notice that gnome-vfs2-unified does *not* appear in the dependency
list for inkscape:

gnome-vfs2-unified-shlibs (>= 1:2.24.0-1)
