This is a problem with the too modern version 5.1 of makeinfo in Fink. An easy
workaround would be to rename /sw/bin/makeinfo to, for example,
/sw/bin/makeinfo-too-new or such (and afterwards renaming it to the original
value), or to change avr-gcc's INFO file
(/sw/fink/10.4/stable/main/finkinfo/devel/avr-gcc.info) and add to the
ConfigureParams the line:

        MAKEINFO=/usr/bin/makeinfo

Then rebuild!
