That's correct. As far as we know, hdf5.8 is back compatible with hdf5.7, so we decided not to bring the latter forward to 10.9. As a quick potential fix until an official update, you can copy /sw/fink/10.7/stable/main/finkinfo/sci/pytables-py.info into /sw/fink/10.7/local/main/finkinfo, then edit the copy to change all occurrences of hdf5.7 to hdf5.8 and to raise the revision to 1.5 or something else between 1 and 2.
