Indeed, the culprit seems to be t1lib5-nox-shlibs, in the sense that if I install it from the binary distribution xdvik works, but if I build it locally the error above pops up. Any idea how can I help digging into this further? Many thanks. In case it matters note that the plain ol' xdvi (from the xdvi-22.85-2 package) works well in both cases (so it might be a texlive problem after all).
