In bash, "type -a patch" will show the locations of all of the "patch" 
executables in your PATH.  In tcsh, "where patch" will do the same 
thing.  If you have other "patch" executables that could well be leading 
to the same problem.

You might want to try another selfupdate, too.  I just made the proper 
fix to make sure that qt3 uses Apple's built-in patch a couple of hours 
ago (I tried to do that earlier, but missed seeing a "patch").
