Unfortunately, the hardcoded message from apt-get doesn’t actually help here.

You most likely don’t have “x11”  because you don’t have the /usr/X11R6 -> 
/opt/X11 and /usr/X11 -> /opt/X11 convenience symlinks.  This was the behavior 
up until fink-0.38.4, and we reverted to it inf fink-0.38.5 for several reasons.

Anyway, either create those symlinks or reinstall Xquartz—I’m assuming you 
updated your OS so Apple clobbered the symlinks for you.
