Hi Alex, all
Thanks so much. Unfortunately it still doesn't build for me - hanging at the same point.
I think there must be something else going on.
Fortunately I got octave 364 to build though.

Cheers
     James.

Dear All,
I'm doing a pretty fresh install of octave.
There's a build error at

./octave.cps:56: Argument of \\ has an extra }.

which I see looks fixed on the debian site as
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=790626

I saw one fink report at
https://www.mail-archive.com/fink-users%40lists.sourceforge.net/msg41019.html
which is basically it, but not a resolution that I could see.
It looks like an upstream fix.

Any news suggested workarounds on this is welcome.

Thanks to Alexander, Jack et al for all their energy & tireless work .

Best wishes,
     James.

I was never able to trigger this, myself, so I forgot about it. D’oh! Thanks for the leg work.

I tried adding the Octave-3.8.2 patch from the Debian bug report, but that actually finally _produced_ the error here rather than fixing it.

Maybe try adding something like

	cp -f %p/share/texmf-dist/web2c/texmf.cnf %b/doc

in the PatchScript block, since upstream’s texmf.cnf was mentioned in the report?

(Major pet peeve of mine: packages forcing end-users to build their docs for full functionality rather than making this optional and shipping built docs in their tarsal).

I’ve just committed a change which works for me. I temporarily applied the patch to trigger the failure here, and then switched Octave’s texinfo dependency over to texinfo-legacy, and that allowed Octave to build for me again.

After a selfupdate, you can verify if you have the new version by using “fink show-deps octave”—the updated version will have texinfo-legacy in the dependencies.
