So you're envisioning not so much a Python wrapper of Thermo-Calc as a generic interface to thermodynamic databases, one face of which might be a Python wrapper?

This already exists - it is basically part of what the TQ-Interface / TC-API / TC-Matlab toolbox enables users to do - i.e. they can interact through these interfaces with the encrypted copyrighted thermodynamic and kinetic databases.

But more than this, the so-called programming interfaces enable users to call Thermo-Calc and some limited DICTRA functionality too - e.g. make a single point eqm calculations, step, map, calculate thermodynamic functions, diffusion coefficients etc etc.
