Frank, This is most probably caused by an issue in fipy whereby the variable operators (getGrad, GetFaceGrad etc) are unaware of the boundary conditions assigned to the variable. This is something we are planning to fix in later versions of fipy. There are ways to fix this issue and I'll get back to you in a day or two to help with this. Cheers -- Daniel Wheeler
