In addition to Dan's good suggestion (which is exactly what I had to
do on the Mac for many years until the MacOSX backend was developed
for Matplotlib), all I can suggest is that you try different
Matplotlib backends.

We have no ability to test on Vista or Windows 7 (neither is
sanctioned at NIST). We have had a similar report on XP:

but I don't think that's the behavior we see here. We are not Windows
users, though.
