TOT == top of tree. It is the most recent code in the cvs repository.

Wait until a release. Anything other than a release could be
non-productive. I suggest you keep two versions of Fire.app around.
ONe which you know is good (such as the last public release) and the one
from top of tree.
Only very rarely do we break backward compatibility of preferences and
such and it's usually on the list when it happens.
