Having had a similar problem using AIM with Fire a while back, check to
make sure that "reconnect on disconnect" (it says something different but
similar in the app, I'm at work & don't have access to check) preference
is turned *off*. That's my _guess_ as to why you're getting
connect/disconnect/reconnect cycles.
Why you aren't connecting the first time round, I have no idea. Sorry.
