Hi,
I remember from the days I used Gerry ICQ, that there was a separate field
in the buddy info dialog that was the name text-to-speech used in spoken
alerts regarding this buddy.
For example, my french name is best said A T N or Eh T N by text-to-speech.
Fire understandably uses the buddy alias for this task, but some aliases
don't sound too well and often a phonetic version of the alias give much
better results.
This in especially true for non English names, which I use a lot. It is also
the case when someone has a alias like Joe@work and Joe@home. All I care to
hear is that I have a message from Joe, so both buddies could be spoken as
Joe, but displayed in the list using the more complete actual alias.
So, as a feature request, would it be possible to keep the current alias
field that would be used for list display purposes and by default for spoken
alerts, and then add a second field for those who prefer an alternate
pronunciation for some buddies?
Just a tought,
--
