A quibble. This only is standard practice for the old revolvers (such
as the original single action revolvers.) It is not considered
necessary for modern revolvers with a safety block for the hammer.
E.g., my S&W 686 has a steel block which comes up between the hammer and
the frame - so that a blow to the hammer can't fire a loaded chamber
which is under the hammer. The block is retracted by the trigger action
as the hammer goes back.
