Gun Saves Innocent Life (Again)

Springfield Woman Saved by Own Gun

At 2:50 a.m., Springfield police received an emergency call
Sunday morning
from Melaney Yancy ,49, of Springfield, OH. According to the report in
today?s Springfield News-Sun, Ms. Yancy was alone in her bedroom when
she
heard two men violently kick down her front door. She fired a warning
shot,
and attempted to escape. When her attackers returned fire, she shot
back.

Matthew Marino, 21, died later at Mercy Medical Center from a
gunshot wound
in the abdomen. He was found by police in Ms. Yancy?s driveway. Local
police
are continuing to search for the second assailant.

?Dramatic stories of personal courage, including this recent Springfield
case,
demonstrate time and again how handguns protect the lives of their
owners,?
noted Robert Butler, Executive Director of the Libertarian Party of
Ohio.

Law-abiding citizens use guns to defend themselves against criminals as
many
as 2.5 million times every year -- or about 6,850 times a day. This
means
that each year, firearms are used more than 60 times more often to
protect the
lives of honest citizens than to take lives, according to Northwest
University
School of Law and the National Safety Council.

?The evidence is clear,? stated Jason Hallmark, chair of the
LPO, ?guns save
the lives of innocent people every day. It is in our best interest, as
honest
citizens, to protect ourselves against criminals. And those who wish to
carry
a gun should be free to do so. Libertarians are the only party that
completely supports Ohioans right to carry.?

?Violent offenders do not worry about gun laws, and they don?t wait
around for
you to call 911,? said Mr. Butler, ?In the end, their biggest fear is
that
their victim may be armed.?

Fortunately, Ms. Yancy, of Springfield, Ohio, will not be charged with
any
crime for defending herself early this Sunday morning.
