As some of you already know, I'm president of the Wikimedia Foundation, and founder of Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Wikipedia is a freely licensed (GNU Free Documentation License) general-interest encyclopedia developed through a unique and innovative (if I may say so) 'wiki' development model, in which anyone can come to the site and edit the articles.
This sounds like a recipe for disaster, but it isn't. It works really really well. One reason it works is because of the very high quality of contributors, including knowledgeable people such as yourself. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_politics http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_firearms_topics Wikipedia follows a strict policy of "Neutral Point of View" (NPOV, we call it) for articles, which means, in essence, that we attempt to write articles in such a fashion that people on all sides of any given issue can agree to the presentation. The most common (and easiest) technique for achiving NPOV is to "go meta", i.e. for Wikipedia itself not to assert anything, but rather to report neutrally on what others have said. We're an encyclopedia, not a forum for original research. Having said that, I think that list members would find the above pages, and related pages, of great interest, and your contributions and improvements would be most welcome and appreciated. --Jimbo _______________________________________________ To post, send message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] To subscribe, unsubscribe, change options, or get password, see http://lists.ucla.edu/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/firearmsregprof
