That "was understood" by whom, exactly? Not by me. I assume that anything
posted here by a list member is "understood" to be ripe for comments. If you
didn't want it publicized, then your gripe is with Mr. Waldron for posting
it, not with me. If you wanted it distributed but not commented upon, an
explicit request to that effect could have introduced the posting. But
again, your gripe about the absence of such notice goes to Mr. Waldron. One
might also have quietly deleted the email addresses of the correspondents,
which would make it more likely that any replies would go to list members
only. (I don't know if Mr. Cornell lurks reading here or not, so it may or
may not have made any difference.) But once again, your gripe is with Mr.
Waldron, if that is what you would have wanted.

It is naive and misguided to think that responding to a message posted to a
semi-public forum such as this needs to be "authorized" in advance by a
person quoted therein.

Since you apparently had no objection to a fairly large number of people (a
list the size and membership of which you presumably do not know) reading
your email exchange, did you really expect that nobody would have anything
to say about it?

And, incidentally, did you have Mr. Cornell's "authorization" for Mr.
Waldron to post his comments to this list?
