John Lott has sued Stephen Levitt, the author of Freakonomics. (FWIW I've read that book and strongly recommend it.)
He says that he was defamed in the book and in an e-mail by the book's author to an unnamed economist. The book has one paragraph saying that others have failed to "replicate" Lott's work. Lott says that no others have tried to "replicate" his work, and therefore a statement that they have failed is defaming his reputation. (Much will depend on what the judge/jury consider is the meaning of "replicate.")
