This interchange is between me and a person interviewed for an upcoming article
in the Minneapolis Tribune concerning crime rates (up) and Minnesota CCW
legislation.

[Conrad and I] talked about the Kleck study, and he dismissed that one pretty
quickly, in fact, he doesn't even believe the much lower number of 120,000 that
comes from the National Crime Victimization Study and a study by Harvard.

I'll send the quote over as soon as I get it. My concern is that he'll make me
sound like I agree with the full BCA report (i.e. few or no DGUs), or he'll
just make me sound like a general whacko.

The DGU study which was published in a leading peer-reviewed criminology
journal by Gary Kleck, PhD, a Professor at FSU, is as "scientifically valid" as
any survey can be. Kleck (who is neither pro-gun nor anti-gun) is the most
well published and highly respected researcher on firearms issues in the USA.
He has won numerous ASC awards for his work.

When Phil Cook, PhD, a Professor at Duke with experience in the area, went to
challenge Kleck's work, he and his co-researcher got results of the same
magnitude (1,000,000).

Cook, then, was left with carping about the imperfections of ALL survey
research. But that research is widely used to sell soap and pantyhose as well
as Presidents. Hundreds of billions of dollars are wagered every year on
exactly the same form of "scientifically valid" survey research.

I guess Conrad Defebre of the Minneapolis Tribune has just nominated himself (a
mere Reporter) for the flat-earth society (perhaps as President). There goes
his credibility.

The MSM strikes again!
