there are those people out there who make statements such as "people worried about their guns being confiscated in the US are being paranoid, it will never happen." Have you seen this?

Comments? Could a class action not be had by the many gun owners who were the victims of this confiscation? Are there pending lawsuits you are aware of?

Class actions are notorious wastes of time and money for everybody but the trial lawyers. The NRA is involved in a continuing lawsuit since March 1 of last year against Mayor Nagin and the city of New Orleans on this subject. So far the mayor has been exposed as a liar (he originally claimed he had no confiscated guns, then admitted he did), found in contempt of court (possibly twice) for failure to provide court-ordered documents and accounting, and is still not off the hook.

One intriguing aspect about this operation is that the officers who body-slammed this grandmother were California Highway Patrol -- officers from a state with a vastly different firearms culture, normally with absolutely no jurisdiction in Louisiana. It brings to mind the old Chinese tactic of having each province garrisoned by troops from other, faraway provinces, in order to minimize the prospect of an oppressive order being resisted by the troops for reasons of sympathy or communal sentiment.
