Sounds like his technique was ... I dunno, stay inside? Not appear and ask to 
be cuffed? I thought SWAT tactics had changed after Columbine, but apparently 
these LEOs never got the word.

A psychiatrist friend points out--

1) In the vast majority of cases, psychoaactive medications work as intended 
(or fail by not working at all). In a small minority, yes, there can be effects 
such as violence. The key is to keep up on the patient's status and make sure 
he isn't in the small minority!

2) You can have a situation where the patient is so utterly depressed they 
cannot even consider suicide, because that implies a hope of ending their 
misery. As antidepressants function, they may pass thru a stage where they are 
feeling just spunky enough to consider suicide, but not enough to reject it.
