They are seeking to arouse excessive fear by LIE-MONGERING.
 
Exactly.  The anti's cannot exist in an atmosphere of truth.  In fact,
one
of the greatest difficulties in debating them is that anti-gun speakers

(even lawyers and PhD criminologists) just "make it up" as needed.  
You never know what astounding new "fact" you'll have to refute.
