I was listening to Fresh Air on NPR yesterday evening (9/27/10) -
"Gary Noesner, who spent 30 years as a hostage negotiator for the FBI"
(hmm - he said 23 years, during the 30 years he worked for the FBI) was
being interviewed and his involvement in the Branch Davidian
negotiations was discussed.

This started about 13 1/2 minutes into the podcast and lasted about
14 minutes - but the interviewer (Terry Gross) started by asking him
about dealing with the BDs who were "armed to the teeth." Note that the
NPR Media Player allows you to move the cursor to move ahead/back
instead of having to wait through everything.

'Stalling For Time' With An FBI Hostage Negotiator

He points out that the FBI didn't enter until after the initial
violence by the ATF. He was there for the "first half" and 35 people
came out during that time. His idea was to keep people coming out
slowly - but others had "different ideas" about strategy. "It's a sad
bit of history in the FBI."

Terry Gross says the end was the BDs poured "inflammatory liquid"
[sic] around the compound. Noesner had left before them - but he says
the BDs burned down the compound.
