Perhaps a better number might be the proportion of homicides due to DGUs -- 
various sources (Kleck, Time magazine) have suggested that the FBI under 
reports justified/excusable homicides at around 3% of homicides when it is more 
likely around 13%.

Knowing this number state by state might answer many interesting question.
