I received a query about how federal regulations in
CFR seem to apply even if
the assault weapons ban sunsets next year. I
am pretty sure that these regulations
turn into pumpkins when the law sunsets.
Right?

I just received my C&R license, and was in the process of reading all the laws, "rules," and "regulations" when I noticed that 18 USC Part I Chapter 44 Sec. 922 (v) is duplicated in 27 CFR Part 178.40. I'm not an attorney, but the way I interpret that is, when 18 USC Chapter 44 Sec. 922 (v) sunsets, 27 CFR Part 178.40 takes over; thus the ban never ends. Looks like Klinton and BigBrother.gov covered their asses pretty good. Do you have any comments concerning the above? I would appreciate any input you may provide. Thank you. http://www.access.gpo.gov/nara/cfr/cfr-retrieve.html#page1 At bottom of page, enter "1997" for year, and enter Title "27" Part "178" Section "40" Make sure "Text" is the type of file selected.
