State Supreme Court Refuses To Hear Gun Appeal
Group Challenges Ferndale's Ban On Guns In City Buildings
FERNDALE, Mich. -- The Michigan Supreme Court has refused to hear an appeal
of a lower court ruling that communities can't ban handguns from public
buildings.
The decision is a victory for the Lansing-based Michigan Coalition for
Responsible Gun Owners. The group challenged Ferndale's ban on guns in city
buildings.
The Michigan Court of Appeals threw out the ban earlier this year when it
ruled in favor of three residents who had sued to defeat the ban.
Gun-rights groups are praising both the appeals court and state Supreme
Court's decision.
Ferndale Mayor Bob Porter said he is stunned the court ignored widespread
support for the ordinance.
