I'm sorry but ...

1 - you are still using a Win98 system and so NTFS isn't supported???

2 - you can't afford *$40* CDN for a *1 TB* external USB2 storage device???!!!

3 - given the limited write life of MLC flash memory cells* (3500 writes), not
to mention speed, there is no way that a USB flash drive should be considered
as an appropriate primary storage for any database file.

*USB Flash drives do not have the same amount of over-provisioned memory as
SSDs (or the same smart memory controllers) which means that the write life
span of a flush drive is very limited (really intended as read memory).

So, given that each Firebird transaction could (depending on the database
Forced Write setting) require the write of the database header page to the
flash. At the worse case, 4000 transactions would likely kill 1 flash cell.

We must be able to drop features which are used by less than .001% of the
Firebird user base!

Come on folks!!!!

If you have specific requirements, then you don't need to upgrade to v3...

Just like changes have been made to the SQL syntax that FB supports, changes to
the file configurations which are supported must evolve...
