Guys, it was close to 30 years ago, but my best guess was that it would tell the AST that the event was cancelled so it probably wouldn't be a good idea to requeue the events. It eliminates a potentially nasty race condition when events are posted while another thread is trying to cancel. Returning a distinctive signature for cancellation makes everything nice and deterministic.
