I assume you are referring to the new authentication mechanism + 
encryption, right? Except for those additions to the protocol, it should 
work basically the same as the previous versions.

For Jaybird I am still rewriting the protocol implementation to better 
support multiple versions of the protocol. Limited time + an occasional 
urge to over-engineer make for slow progress. So far I haven't worked on 
newer versions of the protocol yet.
