I fear that this project is getting bogged down in technical minutiae.

Please consider the numbers.  Firebird's position in the RDB world is already 
low and actually diminishing. 

With this release you have the opportunity to broaden Firebird's appeal to a 
wider audience.  Will you accept the challenge?  Is growth more important than 
proving what clever developers we are?  Will the result of this effort be an 
interface design that proves to be irrelevant?

And please let's try to be civil.  This list is monitored by people (as in 
users) who are interested in Firebird's future and are making decisions based 
on what they read here.
