but if you append info to same log file then will be good to see also date
part. and as option why not let user decide? I like this feature in Interbase
then why not in Firebird?

Date part will be the same, that was the Vlad's point. Redirect output
to gbak-DDMMYYYY.log and look inside the log for the timings.
