Hi, guys!

I use, contribute (monthly donation) and follow firebird development for a
long, long time (almost 20 years).
I really like this database, and actually I don't have a single complaint
about its implemented features.
But from about 2-3 years I have being chosing PostgreSQL for all new
projects in my company, because Firebird doesn't support schemas/namespaces.
Today I took a look at Firebird Planning Board, and didn't see a single
mention for schemas/namespaces in the plan.
It's hard to believe we don't have this actually, and harder to believe we
are not even planning to have it in next releases.
I see you developing a bunch of enterprise targeted features/addons for
Firebird, like native replication, encryption, monitoring tools, but I
don't see how Firebird can compete with any enterprise database without
offering such a basic feature like schemas.
I see shemas on SQL Server, Postgres, Oracle, MySQL, NuoDB, H2, Derby, and
actually it seems it's harder to find a database that doesn't support
schemas than a database that does.
I really think schemas should be a top priority for next release, if the
plan is to target enterprise customers.
If the plan is to target small applications and embedded devices, I can
agree schemas are not needed, but in this case replication, monitoring
tools, encryption, etc... are not so much important also...
I really would like to use Firebird again in new projects. Today I can
compare Postgres with Firebird, and there are so many areas that Firebird
is TOO MUCH better thas Postgres, like easy of install/use/mantain, i18n
support, database file structure, cross platform support, better
architecture, better project control/administration, etc..., and I think it
is a shame to see it losing relevance (at least this is my impression).
I am posting this just to bring it to discussion and because I really
believe Firebird is losing users like my company due to this lacking
feature.

Regards,

Fabiano
