Markdown doesn't require preprocessing 'to be useful'. That is the whole point of markdown: that it is a human-readable plain text file that can be converted to better looking HTML or PDF with a tool.

That said, I agree that we don't need to convert this HTML (or if we do, it should be a one-off). However, I would appreciate it, if moving forward, the project would stick to a single format (preferably markdown), because now we have plain text with seemingly arbitrary styling/formatting, html and markdown.
