I think it will save a lot of headaches if ALTER DATABASE {BEGIN|END} BACKUP can do that for all tablespaces at once. It would be a lot simpler than having to arrange that per tablespace. That is not to say there might be a use case to do it per tablespace file, but I think simple options should be preferred initially.
